Background

 

The BDFCDP Water Sanitation and Hygiene WASH  project was aimed to “increase access to and use of safe water, sanitation and hygiene services among the people in fishing communities for improved public health”. This report is a cumulative report of the activities and targets that have so far been achieved under WASH.

 

Water and sanitation achievements from July 2015 to December 31st , 2019 are as follows;

 

Development of WASH infrastructure/facilities in fishing communities

 

Improved Water Facilities Constructed

The plan was to construct 28 (WASH I  & WASH II) Mechanized piped water systems in 39 villages.

 

28 water systems  have been completed and are functional (Kikondo, Bugoba A, Butembe-Buwagajjo, Gimbo, Kigaya, Muvo, Gunda, Lukanga, Kiwuluguma, Nkombwe, Nambula, Bufumbe, Kigugo, Muyubwe, Bubwa, Busana, Namabere, Nanso B, Bugoba B, Nalumuli, Natyole, Busagazi-Busiri, Upper Senyi-busunga and Buwera including 4 piped water extensions Kokola, Gombolola, Namazina and Muvo-Lugu as well as 1 hand pump in Lugala Ssi )

 

 

A total of 107 AQ-Taps have been  installed in these 28 Water systems.

 

 

Construction of ventilated improved pit (VIP) latrines for communal use in rural growth centers (RGCs), schools and health centers

           

 

A total of (72 VIPs and 13 water borne toilets in fishing villages, 71 VIPs in Primary Schools and 6 VIPs in Health Centers) were completed are fully functional.

Scaling Up Hygiene Promotion and Education in 19 Fishing Villages

 

LGs facilitated to scaling up Hygiene promotion and Education using CLTS approach

Thisactivity was fully implemented by Busoga Trust under implementation of CLTS.

·        

All the 39 villages were triggered including 32 schools with 60% declared ODF and follow ups are still on-going to ensure 100% ODF.
